Data Product: Monthly Averages

Plot uses a monthly average datafile.Monthly Averages are merely the daily ozone values for an entire month divided by the number of days TOMS recorded data in that month. At least 20 day of data must be present to create a monthly average. Select from the month and year of interest and then request the datafile. Remember, you must make sure that the month you are looking for falls within the Satellite Coverage Period.

Data Product: Zonal Mean

Plot uses a single day's Zonal Mean.Zonal Means are an average of the total column ozone through a single global latitude band. The zmday files contain the zonal mean for every day of the year and the zm_month contain an monthly average zonal mean of the entire satellite coverage period requested. The zones are measured in 5 degree increments north to south. 75% of the data for the period (day or month) must be available for the mean to be calculated.

Data Product: Overpass Sites

Data for comparison with specific ground sites like this Dobson station in Boulder, Colorado, USA.As a spacecraft carrying TOMS orbits the Earth, it travels over a number of known ground stations conducting research in atomospheric science. These stations may have Brewer spectrometers or other sensing equipment. Still others have in-situ programs to directly collect data from the atomosphere. Many of these sites are contained in these TOMS Overpass Site Lists. For access to the internet site lists, select a Satellite Coverage Period and the most useful type of listing.
